With the rapid development of science and technology, the application field of polymer materials has been gradually expanded in recent years. Because of the flammability of polymer materials, the application and research of flame retardant have been paid more attention worldwide. Flame retardant has become an important additive for polymer materials at present.
Currently, the world's four largest markets for flame retardants are the us, Europe, Japan and the rest of the asia-pacific region. Of the four markets, the fastest growth was in the rest of Asia. According to the data, from 2006 to 2010, the global average annual growth rate of flame retardant consumption was 4.1%, while the average annual growth rate of other Asian countries and regions was 12.5%. It is predicted that from 2008 to 2014, the global average annual growth rate of flame retardant consumption can reach 4.9%, sales can reach 7%, that is, in 2014, the global flame retardant consumption and sales can reach 262 billion us dollars (equivalent to 40 billion yuan).
Due to the transfer of the international downstream industry chain, the domestic flame retardant industry is developing rapidly. Currently, China USES 180,000 to 220,000 tons of flame retardants per year. From 2007 to 2011, the annual growth rate of flame retardant use in China was about 15%. It is understood that the current market flame retardant products are mainly divided into inorganic flame retardant and organic flame retardant two categories. The inorganic flame retardant is composed of antimony trioxide, magnesium hydroxide and other flame retardant systems. Organic flame retardants include some flame retardant products represented by bromine, nitrogen and phosphorus compounds. It is worth noting that despite the rapid development of China's flame retardant industry, the consumption structure of domestic flame retardant products is not reasonable, which is manifested in the huge market share of bromine flame retardants. However, from 2008 to 2010, with the soaring price of bromine in China, the trend of bromine flame retardants being replaced by halogen free flame retardants with relatively low price was strengthened continuously, and the market of bromine flame retardants showed a certain shrinking state.
At present, the most influential treaties and regulations on flame retardants are Stockholm convention and eu ROHS and REACH. Among them, decabromodiphenyl ethers and hexabromocyclododecane have been listed as pops by the Stockholm convention. With the improvement of people's awareness of environmental protection, the development of environmentally friendly flame retardants with low toxicity and low smoke will become the pursuit goal of China's flame retardant industry. For example, flame retardant polystyrene foam, which meets the B2 flame retardant standard at most, has been banned as an exterior wall insulation material in many developed countries. Therefore, once the national establishment of building materials insulation materials to meet the B1 flame retardant standards, the market will be faced with a large number of bromine flame retardant EPS, so as to switch to the use of phosphorus flame retardant polyurethane foam.
