Recently, flame retardants and environmental safety issues have attracted much attention. Some experts call for flame retardants while environmental protection is more important.
Some experts emphasized the contribution of flame retardants to environmental protection. It is pointed out that fire is one of the sources of environmental pollution, and the application of flame retardants is an important and effective means to improve the fire safety level of related products, avoid the occurrence of fires and restrain the spread of fires. Based on some one-sided experimental results, some organizations overexaggerate the harm of brominated flame retardants to the environment and neglect the damage of the fire itself to the ecological environment. This is actually a practice of choking and abandoning food.
In view of the current social concerns about flame retardants and environmental protection, experts pointed out that the important direction of the green development of flame retardants should be to develop polymer and reactive flame retardants, and strengthen release control, rather than replacing halogen-containing flame retardants with halogen-free flame retardants. Toxicological characterization of chemicals is directly related to their chemical structure, but not to specific elements. It was also pointed out that even in the EU, where chemical regulatory regulations are most stringent, no relevant regulations discriminate against brominated flame retardants or declare support for halogenation of flame retardants.
