The International Symposium on the Environmental Impact of Flame Retardant Hexabromocyclododecane (HBCDD) will be held in Beijing in April 2015. This important issue related to environmental protection has attracted great attention from all walks of life.
What kind of material is HBCDD?
Experts said that HBCDD is a typical persistent organic pollutant (POPs), which belongs to an additive brominated flame retardant (BFR), widely exists in certain environment and organisms, and can accumulate continuously in various organisms, including human beings, and then directly produce certain hazards. That's why HBCDD was included in the control list at the Sixth Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention in May 2013, which required it to be banned worldwide for 18 months (November 2014) from the date of adoption of the resolution. The time has come. How about the implementation of the Convention?
It is understood that the domestic market HBCDD is mainly used for building insulation materials such as foamed polystyrene (EPS) and extruded polystyrene (XPS) to improve the fire resistance of insulation materials. At present, these insulation materials widely used in China are calculated in tens of millions or even billions of square meters, which means that a large number of substances containing HBCDD components are released into the air or accumulated in buildings. It will continue to pollute the environment. At present, a question that must be seriously considered by all manufacturers and users of thermal insulation materials who supply this kind of products is "economy or environment". However, how many of these enterprises and users really understand the adverse effects of this kind of products? When they communicated with the leaders of relevant enterprises in the industry, they took out samples and sniffed "nothing". What?"Some of them ignited and burned."What's the smell?"What can the nose smell?
In fact, the Seminar on the Environmental Impact of Flame Retardant Hexabromocyclododecane (HBCDD), co-sponsored by the Center for Persistent Organic Pollutants Research of Tsinghua University and the Professional Committee of Persistent Organic Pollutants of the Chinese Society of Environmental Sciences, was held on September 25 this year. It was from the Foreign Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, Tsinghua University, Peking University and the Nordic Research on Sustainability and Environmental Chemistry and To Many experts in the environment and building materials industry have clearly described the production and use of HBCDD and its impact on the environment. We should admit that there is no doubt that such products are harmful. At the meeting, some enterprises in the field of heat preservation said that all the problems concerning environmental protection should be seriously faced. The most effective solution is how to find alternative products, or how to cushion them and use them as little as possible in the current situation, but this is not a long-term plan. An expert from the field of building materials said that "inorganic protection can be used." Temperature materials, they do not involve these hazards.
According to experts, our government has always attached great importance to it, and has put forward a strategic control plan which has already been implemented. It is believed that there will be a clearer idea of management and control and implementation strategy at the upcoming Beijing Symposium.
