According to a study by BCCResearch, a market research institute, flame retardant chemicals are worth $4.1 billion worldwide in 2008, which is expected to grow at an annual rate of about 7% and reach $6.1 billion by 2014. In terms of quantity, the global consumption of flame retardants in 2008 is about 3.2 billion pounds (about 1.95 million tons), and this level will grow at an annual rate of 4.9% and is expected to reach 4.3 billion pounds in 2014.
